UFC President Dana White
White urges fighters to tone down training
For Dana White, the Fertitta Brothers and Joe Silva, 2012 has not been kind in regards to keeping UFC fights together.
For the past year, the UFC and it's fighters have been plagued by the injury bug, forcing main event changes and even causing the cancelation of the entire UFC 151 event. So with all eyes set on the stacked UFC On Fox 5 card on December 8, Dana White delivered a message to the fighters on a conference phone call.
"The strategic idea is to put the best fights we could possibly put on Fox. You guys know what the last year and a half has been like. It's tough to keep a card together.
What do we got, like a week and a half to go? I want to say to all of the guys on the phone, "Tone your training down a little bit." Let's not get any body injured this last week and a half."
With the luck White has had with fights in the last few months, most recently the main and co-main event of UFC 153 being canceled, as well as Shane Carwin pulling out of his fight against Roy Nelson, it may be understandable for him to be a bit paranoid.
The "UFC On Fox 5" event features the lightweight title fight between Benson Henderson vs. Nate Diaz, Mauricio " Shogun" Rua vs. Alexander Gustafsson, and a returning B.J. Penn vs. Rory MacDonald.
