Kim says 90% of UFC fighters use PEDs
Dong Hyun Kim has become the Jose Canseco of MMA by claiming that 90 percent of the UFC roster uses performance enhancing drugs. Skeptics of the incomparable athleticism of certain MMA stars have made similar accusations, but 90 percent? That seems a bit excessive. Welterweight Kim had this and much more to say regarding the relationship between steroids and the UFC, according to Middleeasy.com.
"While a lot of people believe doping tests work, just like a breathalyzer test you can get away with it by just controlling timing. Most of the steroids user just cycle and get by the tests. It’s almost like other athletes look down on you as an idiot if you don’t do steroids. It's like non-users are bicyclists while steroid users are racing with motorcycles. But I am one of those 'idiots' that don’t use performance enhancers. I would say 90 percent of UFC fighters use performance enhancers."
Fresh off his recent victory over Paulo Thiago, "Stun Gun" Kim is coming clean about the pressure to juice in the UFC. Perhaps Kim is merely reflecting on the overwhelming status of PED's (performance enhancing drugs) as a tender subject for a startling amount of UFC fighters. This could also be Kim's method of trying to get the UFC to crack down even further when it comes to testing for these substances.
Many believe that if the UFC were to test for PED's on a consistent basis, the world would finally be sure as to who has been using such drugs. It's safe to say that "idiots" like Kim would no longer feel that they were at an unfair disadvantage to the majority of their competition.
However, it's hard to completely dismiss this statement, considering the abundance of unfortunate discoveries as of late concerning several UFC fighters being found guilty of using PED's. 90 percent is quite the assumption, but could this seriously be close to the truth? Now that UFC fighters seem to be testing positive for PED's left and right, there may very well be a chance that corruption of this nature has planted its seed in the heart of yet another beloved professional sport.
