Chad "Money" Mendes

Mendes vs Gamburyan Almost Official for UFC 157

Featherweights Chad Mendes and Manny Gamburyan will most likely face off at UFC 157, according to Glen Gordon of the Glendale News Press.

While the UFC is yet to officially book the fight, Gordon reports that a fight between the former number one contender and TUF runner-up has been added to UFC 157 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California this February.

Since losing to Jose Aldo at UFC 142, Mendes has remained a solid force in the featherweight division,  finishing his last two opponents by knockout in the first round. Mendes is fresh off a KO of Yaotzin Meza at UFC on FX: Sotiropoulos vs Pearson, and a third win (or even KO) in a row will probably put him just one fight away from another shot at the 145 lb. crown.

Gamburyan's latest bout resulted in a definitive unanimous decision win over Michihiro Omigawa last August, a much-needed victory following three consecutive losses. A win over top contender Mendes will unquestionably be the biggest of his career, elevating him to the upper ranks of his division.
