Court McGee Moves to Welterweight, Will Fight Josh Neer at UFC 157
“The Ultimate Fighter” season 11 winner Court McGee is making the switch to welterweight and is expected to face Josh Neer at UFC 157 in February.
MMAfighting.com first reported the match-up Thursday morning. UFC officials have not officially announced the booking.
The event will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. on Feb. 23. The night’s main event features the historic first-ever female fight in the UFC, pitting newly crowned bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey against challenger Liz Carmouche.
McGee, who opened his UFC career with a 3-0 run, has hit a rough patch as of late and looks for new life in his new division. The drop in weight comes after back-to-back decision losses against Nick Ring and Constantinos Philippou, respectively.
The Iowa-based Neer also looks to avoid three straight defeats when he squares off with McGee. The veteran fighter once again returned to the UFC in late 2011 on the strength of a four-fight win streak in other promotions. He then claimed two stoppage victories in the octagon against Kieth Wisniewski and Duane Ludwig, but has now lost two in a row after being knocked out by Mike Pyle and submitted in an upset against Justin Edwards.
