Sanchez vs. Gomi for UFC on FUEL TV 8

The UFC has been rather generous in giving granting the requests of several competitors as of late, and Diego Sanchez is no exception as he will get his ideal opponent of Takanori Gomi at UFC on FUEL TV 8 in Japan on March 3rd, 2013.

After having only a moderate amount of success at welterweight, Sanchez has decided to move back down to lightweight to see if he can establish himself as a worthy contender by getting past the hands of "The Fireball Kid."

This match definitely has the potential to compete with the violent back and forth action of the middleweight main event of Wanderlei Silva versus Brian Stann for "fight of the night" honors.

Both fighters will look to use this opportunity to garner the attention of more high-profile lightweights. Sanchez's previous run at lightweight earned him a title shot with former champion B.J Penn, but it's safe to say that the level of competition has significantly increased since he left the division three years ago.

Gomi, on the other hand, seems to finally be gaining some momentum after losing three of his first four fights in the UFC. If he can pull off a third consecutive victory in Japan, we may very well witness the resurgence of who was once considered one of the best lightweights in the world during his glory days in PRIDE.
