Benavidez vs McCall on tap for UFC 156
Two fighters who failed to defeat flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 156 to climb their way up to a second shot at "Mighty Mouse."
While UFC officials haven't formally announced the match, various tweets between those close to Joseph Benavidez and Ian McCall have declared a mutual desire to fight each other this February on Super Bowl weekend.
Benavidez (16-3) lost a close split decision to Johnson after a five round title fight at UFC 153. This was just the third loss of his career, the other two coming from Dominick Cruz in the bantamweight division. McCall (11-3) is coming off a decision loss to Johnson as well, in a rematch he was granted after their first fight resulted in a controversial majority draw last March.
Both are looking to avenge their losses to Johnson and prove that the flyweight championship is truly within their grasp if the UFC grants them this opportunity to battle for title contention.
UFC 156 will take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature a main event featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar.
