Varner Sick, Bout with Guillard Moved
Jamie Varner vs. Melvin Guillard has been scratched from tonight's "The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale."
Varner was declared too sick to compete by commission doctors. His fight with Guillard was scheduled as the second fight of the main card broadcast airing on FX. Jay Glazer reported the cancellation during the FUEL TV preliminary broadcast.
In an interview with Heidi Androl, Guillard mentioned he believes Varner intended to back out and did not want to fight him. Guillard stated Varner's camp asked that he be checked for greasing prior to the news of Varner's illness.
Androl revealed in the same interview that Dana White intends to reschedule the lightweight bout for UFC 155 on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.
The MMA Lab trained Varner most recently suffered a submission loss to Joe Lauzon in a "Fight of the Night" war at UFC on FOX 4. Before the loss, Varner claimed a huge upset victory in his short-notice return to the octagon with a first-round TKO over Edson Barboza.
Guillard was hoping to bounce back from an August knockout loss to former teammate Donald Cerrone at UFC 150. The Blackzilian member will have to wait a little longer before turning things around.
