Edgar Training with Barboza for UFC 156
As lighting fast as Frankie "The Answer" Edgar is, many fans are questioning as to whether or not he will be able to deal with the accurate yet undeniably brutal striking of opponent Jose Aldo at UFC 156.
The featherweight champion's powerful leg kicks and slingshot straight punches are virtually unrivaled in the featherweight division. However, the resourceful Edgar may have found a game changer in the form of the perfect training partner to prepare him to trade blows with Aldo February 2nd in Las Vegas.
As shown in Edgar's latest video blog, the New Jersey native's has begun training with Muay Thai expert Edson Barboza, one of the most dangerous strikers in the lightweight division. If there is anyone in the UFC Edgar would want to emulate when he finds himself in an exchange with Jose, it's Barboza, one of the few fighters who might actually possess a greater knowledge of kickboxing technique than Aldo himself.
Barboza explained to MMA Weekly how what makes them such great training partners is his respect for Edgar along with the former lightweight champion's desire to reciprocate for all the help Barboza is providing to fix the holes in his game.
"He’s the champ, he’s been the champ for a long time, that’s a big difference. Now I know I have good training partners and good coaches. Frankie he won the last fight with Ben Henderson, he’s the best. I train with him every day. Every day he picks me up at my house for training. Training in the morning, training in the afternoon, training at night, helping me with everything. He’s helped me; I’ve helped him. We’ve stuck together."
No one has been able to effectively connect on Aldo in a very long time, but that could all change now that he might not be the only one at 145 lbs. who packs a truly devastating arsenal of crisp punches and kicks. Now we know who's to blame if we see Frankie Edgar throw a spinning wheel kick or two at UFC 156.
