John "The Magician" Dodson
Dodson After Multiple Titles in UFC
One of the UFC's smallest competitors appears to have some of the biggest aspirations for his bright, young career. Flyweight number one contender John "The Magician'' Dodson not only believes he can steal the 125 lb. championship from Demetrious Johnson January 26th at UFC on FOX 6, but that the bantamweight and featherweight belts will also be within his grasp somewhere down the line.
It's always healthy to strive to be the best in the world, but three different titles? That would make Dodson one of the best to ever set foot inside the octagon, and judging by this interview with the Canadian press, that's just the type of legacy John Dodson is after.
"I want to hold all those three titles at 125, ’35 and ’45. If I can do that, that would be amazing. Then I can die a happy man. I want to be the first guy to do it. A lot of people sit there and talk about it but I want to be able to do it. I want to go out there and put that mark on that wall … I can dominate the sport. I believe I can do this. I truly am a little fat kid. I’m not going to be that man who’s going to have their name washed away in the sand. I want to have my name written in the stars."
We all know that John Dodson could definitely pose a threat in the bantamweight division, his original weight class in which he became the winner of series 14 of The Ultimate Fighter. He must first, however, be the first man to effectively nullify the mind-bending speed of Demetrious Johnson, an incredibly admirable feat in itself.
All cockiness aside, Dodson's words show that only the most unbelievable forms of success are what satisfies this powerful flyweight. We never have to worry about this guy being too complacent with the conventional championship run, as it looks like Dodson won't believe he is as good as he can possibly be until his accolades grant him the legendary status he knows he is capable of achieving.
