Barnett Appears on UFC.com Roster

The UFC recently released a list of Strikeforce acquisitions following the promotion's final event last Saturday night. One of the organization's most well-known competitors, however, was strangely nowhere to be found.

That competitor is former UFC heavyweight champion Josh Barnett, one of the most successful heavyweights not just in Strikeforce, but arguably in the history of the sport.

There is a myriad of reasons as to why Dana White would pass on recruiting Barnett, such as his record of failed drug tests and rumored demand for a large amount of cash upon employment.

Yet anyone who visited UFC.com as of this morning could see that it looks like White may have changed his mind shortly after releasing the aforementioned list. A profile for Josh Barnett can now be found on the UFC's official website as if he had been signed like the other matriculated athletes.

While the profile should not be mistaken for employment, it does vastly increase the chances of us seeing Barnett inside the octagon in the not-so-distant future. We don't know why the UFC chose to add his profile to the website, yet they are obviously well aware that according to UFC.com (which hardly ever displays unofficial information or rumors), Josh Barnett is officially a member of the UFC roster.

If the addition is indeed a tease with no guarantees, fans will be quite disappointed as Barnett has been responsible for some of the most exciting heavyweight battles in the past few years. Aside from his loss to Daniel Cormier last May, Barnett hadn't been defeated since 2006 and holds victories over several big name fighters by way of knockout and submission.

We hope that the profile is a sign that Barnett and White did reach an agreement and the UFC has just added one more highly ranked contender to shake up the heavyweight division.
