Josh Thomson Returns Opposite Nate Diaz At UFC on FOX 7

Diaz welcomes Thomson back to the UFC

A lightweight bout between Nate Diaz and Strikeforce import Josh Thomson is set for UFC on FOX 7.

UFC officials announced the match up earlier this week.

UFC on FOX 7 takes place April 20 at San Jose, California's HP Pavilion, featuring a lightweight title fight between Ben Henderson and Gilbert Melendez.

Diaz last competed against Henderson, the lightweight champion, at UFC on FOX 5, losing via unanimous decision. Prior to that he strung together enough victories to finally earn a title shot after his lengthy stint with the UFC.

Meanwhile, Thomson last competed in the UFC back in 2004. After posting a 2-1 record with the promotion, he went on to Strikeforce, where he compiled a 10-4 record over the next six years.

In his last contest, he met the aforementioned Melendez in the final fight of their epic trilogy. Thomson lost to the champion via split decision.
