Dantas knocks out Galvao in the second
Bellator 89 is in the books, and Eduardo Dantas walked away with the bantamweight belt around his waist.
Dantas met Marcos Galvao in the main event of the evening in Charlotte and earned the victory in impressive fashion. After losing his last fight, a non-title fight outside of Bellator, he stopped Galvao with strikes just past the midpoint of the second round to secure the knockout.
To add to the drama, the two were friends before the fight, though the status of that relationship is questionable after last night.
Also on the card, four opening round bouts took place in the middleweight tournament, including three of which took place on the Spike TV broadcast.
In the preliminary card tournament bout, Sultan Aliev defeated Mikkel Parlo via unanimous decision, while Dan Cramer and Brett Cooper advanced with wins over Brian Rogers and Norman Paraisy, respectively.
The lone tournament fight to not go to decision was Doug Marshall's vicious knockout over Andreas Spang.
