Daniel Cormier Responds to Frank Mir's Comments About Strikeforce
Frank Mir’s recent comment about Strikeforce has caught the attention of his upcoming opponent, Daniel Cormier.
“Level of competition is important,” Mir told ESPN.com concerning his fight with Cormier. “He’s done most of his damage in Strikeforce. Not to downplay Strikeforce, but it’s not the UFC."
Cormier seems to take offense with the former UFC champion's statement. The Olympic wrestler has spent the bulk of his career fighting under the Strikeforce banner, where he rose to prominence by winning the promotion’s heavyweight grand prix tournament and heavyweight title. Of his 11 professional fights, eight were for Strikeforce. Following Mir’s comment, Cormier took to his twitter page in response.
Level of competition @thefrankmir , you do realize I beat the guy fighting for @ufc title next right. Research buddy! I can't wait till 4/20

Strikeforce heavyweight import Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva has been named the next challenger to UFC champion Cain Velasquez’s title. Of course, Cormier knocked out Silva in the first round of their fight in 2011, a grand prix semi-finals match. In that fight, Cormier served as a replacement for Silva’s original opponent, Alistair Overeem.
Cormier will look to make Mir eat his words when they collide at UFC on FOX 7 on April 20 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The show’s main event is features Cormier’s fellow Strikeforce champion, lightweight Gilbert Melendez, making his UFC debut in a title fight with UFC champion Benson Henderson. The fight between Cormier and Mir serves as the co-main event for the card.
