Fitch leaves promotion with 14-3-1 UFC record
The UFC has cut ties with 16 fighters today, with former UFC contender Jon Fitch being at the top of the list
Dana White confirmed the releases with Ariel Helwani, who broke the news today.
Besides Fitch, among those released include: Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Jacob Volkmann, Vladimir Matyushenko, Che Mills, Jay Hieron, Terry Etim, Paul Sass, Jorge Santiago, Mike Stumpf, Simeon Thoresen, C.J. Keith, Motonobu Tezuka, Josh Grispi and Ulysses Gomez.
Fitch is 1-2-1 in his last four fights, with his most recent fight being a loss to Demian Maia at UFC 156, in a bout that saw him completely dominated grappling wise. However, despite his recent record, his credibility and name value should bring him many suitors looking for a quality welterweight.
All fighters released are coming off at least one loss.
UPDATE: Tweet from MMAJunkie's John Morgan:
Surprised at some of names but not number of guys released by UFC. Was told they need to trim about 100 guys right now.
