Anthony "Showtime" Pettis
Aldo vs Pettis Fight Booked August 3
Immediately following Jose Aldo's victory over Frankie Edgar at UFC 156, Dana White received a text message from lightweight contender Anthony "Showtime" Pettis asking to be the next challenger for the featherweight title.
Apparently, Dana White had been thinking about this fight for a long time because he has indeed granted Pettis his wish.
Anthony Pettis will fight Jose Aldo for the featherweight belt, reportedly on August 3rd, 2013.
Pettis was actually next in line for a lightweight title shot, set to face the winner of Benson Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez at UFC on FOX 7. Looks like the idea of dethroning one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters on earth seemed a bit more enticing for the surging Pettis, coming off a huge TKO of Donald Cerrone at UFC on FOX 6.
USA Today has the confirmation of the match-up from the UFC President himself:
"Two of the baddest dudes in the fight business are going to fight at 145 pounds. These guys are two of the most amazing, gravity-defying athletes in the sport. I am so pumped for this fight."
While the title fight is officially booked for August 3rd, the location and name of the event are yet to be revealed.
