UFC teams with FightMetric for fighter rankings

Fans of the UFC will finally have a better grasp as to where the fighters rank in each division.

The world's elite MMA promotion has teamed up with FightMetric to produce the rankings, while 90 media members will take part in the process. Dana White made the announcement leading up to the Super Bowl weekend event, UFC 156, in a press release.

"UFC Fighter Rankings are a great tool for new and existing fans alike to learn and better keep up with the fast pace of the UFC," said White. "We always look for opportunities to engage fans and media, allowing them to connect and voice their opinions, and this just one more way of doing that."

The rankings will be updated after each UFC event (and are exclusive to UFC fighters). FightMetric will compile the results from the 90 media members in order to calculate the ranks for each division within the UFC, as well as pound-for-pound rankings.

The new system seeks to give fans a better grasp as to where each fighter ranks in comparison to his fellow competitors. However, the rankings will not determine title shots.

The rankings will be kept up to date over at UFC.com beginning later this month.
