Mendes vs. Guida on April 20th

It seemed that former featherweight number one contender Chad Mendes would have to wait a little longer than expected to continue his second climb to the title when it was announced that opponent Manny Gamburyan was forced to withdraw from their match at UFC 157 due to an injured elbow.

No replacement was found and Mendes' fight was scrapped altogether.

But "Money" will have the opportunity to overcome another powerful grappler in the near future as he will now face division newcomer Clay Guida April 20th at UFC on FOX 7 in San Jose, California.

It was Guida's relentless wrestling that earned him a close split decision victory at his 145 lb. debut against Hatsu Hioki last month. His potential to succeed at this new weight will surely be tested against the surging Mendes, whose only loss in his career was to Jose Aldo in January of 2012.

Mendes is currently riding a two-fight win streak (both of which he earned by KO) and aside from the aforementioned title fight, is yet to have his speed and precision compromised in the UFC.
