The middleweight showdown that everybody knew would eventually be booked has been made the official main event for UFC on FX 8.

Vitor Belfort will take on former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold at the Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil on May 18th, 2013.

The winner of this contest will most likely be just one more win away from a shot at Anderson Silva's championship belt.

Rockhold is the underdog in this fight, as he hasn't faced the caliber of competition his opponent is used to. However, 2013 is already starting off to be a year of upsets, so the outcome of this match could really go either way as the middleweight title picture continues to narrow.

It's also safe to say that whoever gets his hand raised has a good chance of meeting the victor of the fight between Yushin Okami and Hector Lombard, who fight at UFC on FUEL TV 8 on March 3rd.
