Henderson vs Evans, Rua vs Lil' Nog June 15th
Two huge light heavyweight showdowns have been booked for UFC 161, June 15th in Winnipeg, Canada. The legendary Dan Henderson will take on another former UFC light heavyweight champion in Rashad Evans and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua will fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for a second time since their epic clash at the 2005 PRIDE Middleweight Grand Prix.
Hendo was recently defeated by the elusive movement and unorthodox kicks of Lyoto Machida at UFC 157, and Evans was out-boxed by Lil' Nog earlier that same month at UFC 156. They will both try to re-establish their striking and grappling prowess in this career-changing fight. A loss for Hendo could signal the end of his days in the UFC and if Evans comes up short, he will surely lose his rank and reputation as a top contender in the division.
PRIDE veterans Rua and Nogueira had an unforgettable fifteen minute match in June of 2005 that saw both competitors display extraordinary levels of toughness and conditioning. It was Rua who came out on top, putting a brutal beating on Nogueira despite almost getting caught in one of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt's submission holds on several occasions. The two superstars will look to put their world class skills on display for what will surely be another violent back and forth war.
We will keep you updated as to the development of this UFC 161 fight card as no other matches have been announced for this June 15th event just yet.
