It's no secret that New York has long been the goal of the UFC, with an event at NYC's Madison Square Garden being the venue of choice for a state debut. The promotion has even already reserved the legendary arena for later this year. So with the vote for MMA's legalization coming soon, we decided to ask Dana White what his ultimate dream fight would be to headline such an event.
FD: We know the UFC has an MSG reserved for an event in November, which is outstanding for us here, considering MSG is right around the corner form our offices. But I was wondering, and of course it all pends on MMA’s legalization, What would your dream main event be?
The long talked about bout has been discussed since Jones arrival on the UFC scene, with "Bones" and Silva often commenting on the matchup. However, nothing official has made it past the rumor mill.
The middleweight Silva and the light-heavyweight Jones are ranked #1 and 2 on UFC's official pound-4-pound rankings, so of course that would be the logical matchup for many fans. With Silva's history of fighting at light-heavyweight, and stated desire to fight in marquee fights, it may not a be long before we see the two clash.
As of now the battle to legalize MMA in NY has already succeeded in passing a bill through the State Senate, however it must now wait to have it's vote heard on the State Assembly floor. In the past, the sport's vote has failed to even be heard. However with continued pressure from the UFC, Fans, and even NY Governor Andrew Cuomo, it may not be much longer before we get to witness MMA in the house that Ali and Frazier built.
