The TUF 17 Finale takes place this Saturday, April 13th, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The action begins at 5:40 pm ET on Facebook, followed by more preliminary action at 7 pm on Fuel TV, and then finally at 9 pm with the main card bouts.
2) Urijah Faber fights friend Scott Jorgensen in battle of top bantamweights
Before this bout was announced, friends and sometimes training partners Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen said they would never fight each other. Hell, "The California Kid" was actually the man to push Jorgensen into MMA. But when you're ranked #2 and #7 in the UFC's bantamweight rankings, with a chance to fight for a title, then sometimes you have to forget about all the good times and get down to business. But don't feel to bad for the guys, after the fight the two will be throwing down together at a Las Vegas after party.
3) The original main event was scrapped
The original main event was slated to be a title fight between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga, who is surging with a 7-fight win streak. However, the bout was scraped from the card when "Mighty Mouse" suffered a torn labrum in his right shoulder and was forced off the event.
4) The second ever women's UFC fight
The card will be a historic one in that it will feature the second ever women's bout in UFC history when Cat Zingano(7-0) takes on former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate(13-3). Of course, as of now the only other women's bout was at UFC 157 when champion Ronda Rousey armbared Liz Carmouche. And if this bout gets you excited check out our Miesha Tate gallery.
5) The winner will coach opposite Ronda Rousey TUF 18
There is also a grand prize in store for the winner of the Tate-Zingano bout, as the not only will they fight Ronda Rousey for her championship at some point in the future, but they will also coach on the opposite side of the "rowdy one" on The Ultimate Fighter 18. The latest installment of the series will also, for the first time, feature men and women competitors.
6) Travis Browne returns
After tearing his hamstring in his loss to Antonio Silva back in October, heavyweight Travis Browne will make his return to the octagon against BJJ black belt Gabrielle Gonzaga. Before his loss to "Bigfoot". the big Hawaiian was surging through the heavyweight division with a 14-fight unbeaten streak. Going forward with this bout, it will be interesting to see if he can regain his former standing in the UFC's surprisingly stacked division.
7) Gabrielle Gonzaga is quietly climbing back up the ranks
After losing two consecutive bouts in 2010, former heavyweight contender Gabrielle Gonzaga was at an all-time low. He just been released by the UFC and was looking at possibly hanging up his giant-sized gloves. However all that has changed, thanks to a new UFC contract and three fight win streak that includes three submission finishes. With a win over Travis Browne, "Napao" will surely make a massive statement in the promotion's heaviest division.
8) A TUF champion will be crowned
Lets not forget that this is an Ultimate Fighter Finale, so there has to be a TUF champion. As we found out from the last episode of the season, dark horse Kelvin Gastelum will take on KO artist and all-around destructive force Uriah Hall. Both fighters advanced to the finals by finishing all their opponents on the show.
9) 9 other TUF 17 fighters are on the card
Excluding Hall and Gastelum, 9 additional TUF 17 fighters will get the chance to show the UFC brass why they deserve the chance to fight in the world's biggest MMA promotion. Check out where each cast member is fighting and against who.
10) Every fighter on the Facebook prelims is coming off a loss
Cole Miller, Bart Palaszewski, Justin Lawrence, Daniel Pineda, Sam Sicilia, and Maximo Blanco all have one thing in common, and it's not good. All the them are coming off losses. With that being said there is good news and bad news for the group. The good being that someone has to win, the bad being that with another loss there is a solid chance someone will get released.
