Bonnar suspended one year following positive test

UFC light heavyweight Stephan Bonnar has been issued a one-year suspension after testing positive for steroids following UFC 153.

Marc Ratner, the UFC's Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, announced the suspension earlier this week.

The positive test was Bonnar's second during his time in the UFC. He lost to Anderson Silva at UFC 153 in Brazil prior to testing positive.

Since the event took place outside the United States, the promotion took care of the drug testing and, therefore, also is taking care of suspensions. But Bonnar was not the only fighter to test positive as Dave Herman was flagged for marijuana.

His suspension has yet to be announced.

Of course, the one-year suspension for Bonnar means little in terms of fighting. The longtime UFC fan-favorite retired from the sport following the loss, though the second positive test was hardly the way a potential future UFC Hall of Famer wants to end his career.
