Le, Silva earn stoppage victories in China
Prior to 2012, UFC middleweight Cung Le found himself winless in the UFC. With the year coming to a close, he finds himself in a much different spot after earning a quick knockout win over Rich Franklin in the main event of "UFC on FUEL TV 6."
The event took place in China and broadcast live on FUEL TV on the morning of November 10 in the United States.
Franklin was loose at the start of the main event, while Le seemed a bit tighter. That all changed even before the round reached its midpoint when Franklin went forward with a kick.
An overhand right counter from Le knocked the former middleweight champion out cold, leaving Franklin flat on the mat at 2:17 of the opening round.
Le is now 2-1 in the UFC, though he came very close to winning his debut against Wanderlei Silva back at UFC 139. The win over Franklin is arguably the biggest of his career.
Meanwhile, in the evening's co-main event, former contender Thiago Silva looked to get back on track after a loss to Alexander Gustafsson in Sweden earlier this year. The loss, combined with injury troubles and a year-long suspension, meant Silva had not earned a victory since he knocked out Keith Jardine at UFC 102.
The bout did not appear to be going the Brazilian's way throughout the first two rounds, as Stanislav Nedkov utilized his striking and the clinch to control most of the action, even sending Silva to the mat once.
However, the third round was a different story. Silva managed to work the fight in his favor by gaining top position early in the final frame. Once in side control, he locked on an arm triangle choke, forcing Nedkov to submit.
Silva is now 15-3 in the UFC, while Nedkov experienced defeat for the first time.
