January Strikeforce card loses champ Rockhold to injury
The injury woes continue for Strikeforce as middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is injured and out of the January 12 event.
The card, titled "Strikeforce: Champions," takes place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The main card broadcasts live on Showtime.
Rockhold was scheduled to meet Lorenz Larkin at the event and the two would have competed in the main event of the evening.
The MMA Corner reported the news this weekend, citing a wrist injury as the cause for Rockhold's withdrawal.
The January show was once a stacked card, featuring three title fights. Following an injury to lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez last week and now Rockhold this past weekend, the card features just one title fight, though two champions will be competing in total.
In a welterweight title fight, Nate Marquardt looks to defend his belt against Tarec Saffiedine, while heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier meets Dion Staring in a non-title fight. Marquardt vs. Saffiedine will likely serve as the new main event.
