Henderson Will Take 'W'  Any Way He Can Get It

Benson Henderson has been receiving a lot of negative feedback for his last two fights because he didn't win in a very dominating fashion.

While most would assume that Henderson would be equally dissatisfied and eager to make a different statement in his upcoming fight, it seems that one of the only people who is perfectly fine with the way Benson Henderson likes to win matches is Benson Henderson.

The lightweight champion is well aware that his second match with Frankie Edgar was extremely close. However, he doesn't regret the way he won. What's even more of a surprise is that, according to his FOX media conference call, Henderson wouldn't mind if he won his next fight with Nate Diaz the exact same way.

When asked about his latest title defense and how he'd prefer his upcoming fight to transpire, Henderson revealed that when it comes to facing the best in the world, he'll be happy with any win, regardless of how he earns it.

“I think the first two Frankie fights, the first one was close and everyone was hoping the second wouldn’t be as close and would be more decisive but, sadly the second one was even closer than the first one. It is what it is. But, as far as me facing Nate, and how I gotta win against Nate, I’m just trying to get the ‘W.’ I’m trying to get my hand raised however I can get it. If he slips on a banana peel, I’ll take it. If it’s a decisive victory, I’ll take it even closer, razor thin decision, even closer than the second Frankie fight, I’ll take that too. Getting the ‘W’ is not easy to come by in the UFC going against the best guys, literally, on the planet. I’ll take it any way I can get it. That being said, all the fighters on the line, we all fight to end fights and to have to be as decisive as possible. But, sometimes, when you’re fighting the best guys on the planet, you can’t make it as easy as that. You can’t make it a decisive bout because the guys your fighting it’s almost offensive to say, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m going to go in there and I’m going to knock out Nate Diaz, no problem.’ No, I’m not going to say that. Nate Diaz is tough, he’s darn tough and I’ll try to get my hand raised anyway possible.”

Nate Diaz has definitely expressed his desire to avoid a close match with the champion, yet it might be hard to overwhelm Henderson when he could very well be imposing the type of fight Nate is most afraid of.  It's clear that Benson respects the technique of Diaz both on the feet and on the ground, and it looks like he will once again rely on his athleticism so he won't have to deal with either facet of the challenger's game.

While Henderson is merely being honest by saying that he doesn't believe he can actually pose a threat to Diaz going toe to toe, it is a bit frustrating to hear that Henderson has no problem repeating his usual strategy since it has already worked in the past. A win is a win for the champion, and perhaps what makes Henderson such an enigma as a title holder is his lack of care for how entertaining or intimidating his performances are.

Henderson did say that he'll do whatever it takes for the victory, though, and if Nate Diaz fights with all the intensity and attitude he's known for, fans will surely be in for an all-out war for the lightweight championship at "UFC on FOX 5: Henderson vs. Diaz."
