Werdum Bashes Overeem on PED's and Heart

Fabricio Werdum doesn't hold the future opponent of his friend Antonio Silva in a very high regard. In a recent interview with CagedInsider, "Vai Cavallo" not only believes that Alistair Overeem was on steroids when the two fought in Pride in 2006, but also that he has the heart of a chicken compared to heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos.

Werdum and Overeem have quite a history together. They each have one win over each other, the latest being Overeem's anticlimactic victory in the quarterfinal's of last year's Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.

It seems that Fabricio Werdum is yet another one of the many critics who don't think Overeem has the talent and respect for the rules of the game to succeed in this business. Werdum first addressed the role of PED's in the career of "The Reem", who tested positive for elevated testosterone last December:

"For sure, the time in 2006, when I fought with him. For sure he was on the juice again. The special juice. All the time he's on the special juice. I don't know. In Japan it's not like here in the U.S.A. There's a lot of control, I like that, but in 2006 in Japan, in Pride there was control, but not 100 percent. They had tests but don't find the drugs."

The amount of rumored corruption in Pride during this time makes the idea of Overeem using PED's not too far-fetched. Werdum then went on to describe his feelings towards a fight between Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos, which seems inevitable, regardless of the outcome of Dos Santos' and Overeem's next fights.

"Yes, maybe Dos Santos knocks down [Overeem]. I think this because Dos Santos has good boxing, he's a smart guy, very confident in his stand up. I know Alistair Overeem was a champ at K-1 with good stand-up too, but I don't think Overeem doesn't have a big heart. Dos Santos has a big heart, Overeem has a chicken heart."

Overeem has had some harsh words thrown at him since he got busted, but "chicken heart?" It's more than likely that Overeem's apparent use of PED's are what led Werdum to this conclusion. We will see what Overeem is really made of when he goes head to head with a more than formidable opponent in Antonio Silva at UFC 156.
