Rousey vs Carmouche to headline UFC 157
Ronda Rousey finally has an opponent and an event for her first ever fight in the UFC.
Rousey, who relinquished her Strikeforce women's bantamweight belt to become the new UFC champion of the same division, will headline UFC 157 in Anaheim against former Strikeforce competitor Liz Carmouche.
No, it's not the "Cyborg" fight MMA fans have been anticipating for quite a while now, but UFC President said the "Girl-Rilla" was the only willing participant to step up to the challenge when the call went our for a "Cyborg" replacement.
Rousey also reminded fans that they would eventually get the fight they have been waiting for, just not as soon as February 23, 2013, the date of UFC 157.
White announced the fight today during a UFC on FOX 5 pre-fight press conference, formally awarding Rousey the women's bantamweight title in the process.
While this is most definitely a monumental moment for the UFC, it's still questionable as to whether or not this is truly a main event that will attract the usual amount of fans that tune in for a UFC pay-per-view.
It will, however, mark the first time women's MMA has been brought to such a mainstream scale. History will be made at UFC 157.
Get ready, folks. This is huge.
