Dan Henderson Won’t Wait For Title Fight

Hendo on Jones: I'd knock him on his ass

Dan Henderson knows that as a 42-year-old man, his fighting career will be over sooner than later. But unlike most men his age, he's still pretty good at keeping pace with the young guns and still really good at knocking people out, and thats what he's going to continue to do, title shot or no title shot.

Hendo recently appeared on MMAJunkie Radio and spoke about the light-heavyweight championship and Jon Jones:

"If the timing's right, I'd do it," Henderson today told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "If not, I'll beat the next top guy."

"I feel that I'm probably the guy to beat in the weight class. I know that if I fought Jones, I'd knock him on his ass. But if I don't get that opportunity, I'm not going to sit and dwell on it and wait for it. I waited last year, and I'm not going to do it this year."

Here is what we know about the UFC light-heavyweight championship picture. The recent addition of Daniel Cormier to the UFC roster, and his stated desire to fight at light-heavyweight against Jon Jones, the division's title picture has become a foggy one. We also know that, after defeating "Shogun" Rua at UFC on Fox 5, somewhere in Sweeden, Alexander Gustafsson is waiting for his name to be called.

Dan Henderson will fight Lyoto Machida at UFC 157 in what some have called a number one contender matchup, but as we know there is no such thing as a guaranteed shot at the championship. Between those four men, and Jones' own fight with Chael Sonnen at UFC 159, what we know is that we don't know squat about who will fight for the title. As we we have seen its entirely up to the UFC brass to put together what is THEY feel is the best fight, and not necessarily what IS the best fight.

If we never get to see what was the UFC 151 main event between Jones and Henderson, it will surely be a blow for many MMA fans. However the fact that Hendo is open to fight anyone, whether it be for gold or not, is refreshing as we have no idea how much longer the "old guy" wants to keep going.
