Vice Magazine is known for scouring the globe, covering controversial and captivating stories where many fear to travel. Vice’s MMA website, Fightland, traveled to the country of Jordan to film at Source Gym in the country’s capital city of Amman. The gym is founded by Palestinian refugee and fourth-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Samy Al-Jamal. There he educates all comers in modern martial arts techniques in a land filled with culture and conflict. Along with Al-Jamal, the video also features Ramzi Nabulsi, an Australian MMA practitioner who moved to Jordan so his family’s spirituality may flourish, and Rana Qubbaj, the first Arab woman to become an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation tournament champion. Very fascinating.
